چکیده

Abstract The continuous generation of waste resulting from the industrial activities humans has significantly been on rise, especially liquid wastes emanating cassava processing mills, which is a major cause for concern in developing countries. This study focused preparation H 3 PO 4 activated periwinkle carbon (APSC) and use removal cyanide wastewater. influence variables such as pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, different concentrations was investigated batch procedures. Results studies reveal strong pH-dependent adsorption process with optimum occurring at pH 8. An equilibrium time 80 min dosage 3.0 g gave highest percentage adsorbed 83.93%. Pseudo-first-order, Pseudo-second-order, Elovich kinetic models were used analysis experimental data while using Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich–Peterson carried out to determine best-fit isotherm model. Coefficient determination ( r 2 ), Sum square error (SSE), Chi-square $$\chi^{2}$$ ? 2 ) estimate deviations between predicted nonlinear regression that best explain process. Kinetic fitted well Pseudo-second-order model implies chemisorption dominant Langmuir describes suggesting mono-layer monolayer capacity APSC found be 2.856 mg.g ?1 .

Aerobic cyanide degradation by bacterial isolates from cassava factory wastewater

Ten bacterial strains that utilize cyanide (CN) as a nitrogen source were isolated from cassava factory wastewater after enrichment in a liquid media containing sodium cyanide (1 mM) and glucose (0.2% w/v). The strains could tolerate and grow in cyanide concentrations of up to 5 mM. Increased cyanide levels in the media caused an extension of lag phase in the bacterial growth indicating that th...

Protein removal from salt-laden wastewater by activated carbon

One of the wastewaters from tanning industry (soak liquor) contains 0.4 g/L of dissolved protein. During coagulation and flocculation 41% of protein was removed. A suggestion has been made to remove the residual protein by adsorption technique. The optimum conditions for adsorption of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) on rice bran based activated carbon (RBAC) were arrived. Maximum adsorption of BSA t...
